Yadea confirms to be the Global Leader in the e-scooter market although struggling. Global e-scooter in 2022 sales have been 5 million (-17.3%) still representing over the half of global sales.
Yadea Global e-scooters sales
Yadea is the global leader in electric two-wheelers industry following an impressive growth during the 2017-2022 period, when sales boomed at over 13 millions, including both e-bike and e-scooter.
The electric scooter sales grew up from 2 million in 2017 to over 6 million in 2022, representing near 60% of global market share!
During the 2023, while the Yadea business kept growing, thanks to the e-bike sales record, the e-scooter volume declined, first time after 7 years, an d sharply.
Indeed the “zero-Covid” policy applied by the Chinese government created wide disruption in the production and supply chain, reducing Yadea production capacity, while the domestic demand declined, first time in decades.
International activity grew up, mainly thanks to the growth of production in Vietnam, but the growth was not enough to balance the fall in domestic chinese delivery. Indeed, although operating in over 80 nations, 98% of sales are done in China.
Consequently, in 2022 sales have been 5 million (-17.3%) still representing over the half of global sales.
Confirming the very reactive approach to industry evolution, in these months Yadea announced a new partnership to import in China the swapping battery system developed and well test in Taiwan by the local company Gogoro.
In fact, a joint venture born by Yadea, Gogoro and Dachangjiang Group (DCJ), one of the country’s biggest motorcycle makers. They will jointly invest $50 million in an operating company to develop new two-wheel vehicles with their own branding that use the Gogoro Network, including its batteries, drivetrains, controllers and other components.
